Privacy Policy

My Shelf ("we", "us") lets you catalog, organize, and share your personal book collection. This page explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and who we share it with — including through the My Shelf Android and iOS apps, which display the same web app you see at my-shelf.app.
Information We Collect
- Account information: name, email address, and authentication credentials (or passkey/social-login identifiers) when you create an account.
- Book and shelf data: book titles, authors, cover images, and shelf/listing details you add or that our scan feature identifies, plus any shelves you make public.
- Photos (camera): if you use the scan feature, photos of your bookshelf are captured through your device camera and uploaded so we can identify the books on it.
- Payment information: if you pay to open a bookstore or make a sale, payment details are collected and processed by our payment processor, Small Transfers — we do not receive or store your full card details.
- Usage and device data: we use session-replay/analytics tooling (LogRocket) that records how you interact with the app (pages visited, clicks, and similar diagnostic/performance data) to help us fix bugs and improve the product.
Camera Permission (Android/iOS)
The My Shelf app requests camera access only to support the shelf-scanning feature. Camera access is used solely to capture a photo of your bookshelf when you choose to scan; we do not access the camera in the background or for any other purpose.
How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account and digital bookshelf.
- To identify books from photos you scan and generate listings automatically.
- To display your public shelf/listings to people you choose to share them with.
- To process payments for bookstore fees or book sales.
- To monitor, debug, and improve the reliability and performance of the app.
Third Parties We Share Data With
We rely on the following service providers to run My Shelf. Each only receives the data it needs:
- Replicate and/or OpenAI — process bookshelf photos to detect and identify individual books (titles/authors).
- Cloudflare R2 — stores uploaded bookshelf photos and cover images.
- Open Library — used to look up public book metadata (titles, authors, covers); no personal data is sent to Open Library.
- Small Transfers — processes payments for bookstore fees and book sales.
- LogRocket — session-replay and analytics for debugging and product improvement.
We do not sell your personal information. We share data with the providers above only as needed to operate the service, and otherwise only if required by law.
Data Retention
We retain your account, shelf, and book data for as long as your account is active. Bookshelf photos are retained to support re-processing and support requests; you can delete individual listings/shelves at any time. See our Account & Data Deletion page for how to delete your account and associated data.
Your Choices
You control what you make public — shelves and listings are only visible to others once you choose to share them. You can edit or remove listings at any time, and you can request account deletion by contacting us.
Children's Privacy
My Shelf is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
